What is Chiropractic ?
Chiropractic centres around specific spinal adjustments — a chiropractic adjustment — to promote proper spinal alignment to promote proper spinal alignment and increase the function of the nervous system. Our Chiropractors thoroughly assess the spine, identifying areas of stress, restriction, and irritation. They then develop a personalised plan of chiropractic treatments and rehabilitation plan to restore the spine to its normal function.
When the spine loses its mobility and balance, it places added strain on joints, muscles, and nerves, resulting in various symptoms such as pain, stiffness, muscle tension, weakness, tingling sensations, and much more. Chiropractic is a harmonious blend of scientific principles and philosophy, all with the overarching goal of optimising the body’s functionality. The practice is primarily concerned with achieving spinal alignment through precise, targeted adjustments, enhancing the biomechanical health of the spine. Every day, hundreds of people visit us not only to maintain their well-being but also to enhance flexibility, correct posture, and improve overall quality of life and athletic performance.
Our Patients
Our diverse patient base visits our clinic for a multitude of reasons. Some initially arrive with symptoms like back pain, neck discomfort, headaches, or arthritis. However, once they are well again the positive impact of Chiropractic care encourages them to continue their visits. Many patients also continue with Chiropractic for Wellness to maintain progress and feel their best. Regular adjustments will leave you feeling rejuvenated and in excellent health.
Here at the Cotswold Chiropractic Health Centre, we welcome a wide range of patients, including entire families. Our doors are open to babies, children, parents, grandparents – everyone is part of our extended family!
We also hold a deep passion for sports, excercise and its potential for holistic well-being. Our services extend beyond addressing sports-related injuries; we also cater to individuals who recognize the advantages of Chiropractic care in enhancing their athletic performance. Many elite athletes have Chiropractors on their support teams to help them maintain peak alignment for optimal performance.
Chiropractic care is a vital component of mainstream healthcare, providing benefits to individuals from all walks of life.
What causes your Symptoms ?
The nervous system controls and coordinates all bodily functions and movements. When your spine is misaligned, it can disrupt the proper functioning of your nervous system, leading to adverse impacts on your overall health and performance. In some instances, this misalignment can manifest as symptoms such as pain, numbness, pins and needles, and tingling sensations.
In contrast to painkillers, which merely provide temporary relief from symptoms, Chiropractors focus on identifying and addressing the root causes of these issues. To pinpoint the underlying causes, we conduct a comprehensive assessment, this includes gathering your medical history and performing a physical examination. This examination encompasses neurological, cardiovascular, abdominal, postural and respiratory screenings, as well as assessments of your range of motion and gait. If necessary, we have the capability to perform digital X-rays on-site. In certain cases, we may refer you to your primary care physician for further diagnostic tests.
Your chiropractor will utilize precise adjustments as part of your chiropractic care and chiropractic treatment plan to correct any spinal misalignments and facilitate your body’s natural healing processes.
Meet our Team
You couldn't Be in better hands
At Cotswold Chiropractic Health Centre, our friendly team is a diverse group of professionals dedicated to providing a modern perspective on health and well-being. We recognize that a single approach may not always suffice, and we believe in the power of a multi-disciplinary care and education to help you achieve your long-term health goals effectively.
Your Chiropractic Consultation
Welcome to the first step of your journey — your chiropractic consultation. When you schedule your initial appointment, we’ll send you an online health questionnaire to gather essential information about your health and the reason for your visit. Upon arriving at our clinic, we’ll ask you to complete one more form to provide additional details about your symptoms.
Your chiropractor will then consult with you, discussing your symptoms, their onset, aggravating and alleviating factors, and any previous treatments you’ve tried. They will also ask specific questions to gain a comprehensive understanding of your condition. Once your chiropractor has gathered all the necessary information, they will proceed with a physical examination.
The physical examination typically begins with an assessment of your spine, evaluating its alignment, mobility, and overall joint health. Chiropractors are skilled at identifying areas of dysfunction in the spine, using their trained hands to examine each spinal joint, applying a combination of gentle and firm pressure. They will also assess muscle tension, check for signs of inflammation or swelling, and, if necessary, conduct advanced physiological and neurological tests.
Following the examination, your chiropractor may recommend X-ray imaging to better understand the underlying causes of your symptoms and ensure the safety and appropriateness of further treatment. These X-rays help build a foundation for developing a tailored treatment plan based on your spinal condition.
Once your chiropractor has all the necessary information to assess your case, they will discuss their initial findings with you. If you both agree, they may proceed with your first chiropractic adjustment. This adjustment is considered part of the examination process, as it allows the chiropractor to assess how your joints respond to manipulation after identifying the areas in your spine causing your symptoms.
After your first adjustment, your chiropractor will carefully review all their notes, the examination findings, your health history, and any available X-ray images. This thorough analysis will enable them to create a personalized treatment plan aimed at rehabilitating your spine, restoring your function, and addressing your symptoms. Your well-being is our priority, and we are committed to providing you with the most appropriate care based on your unique spinal condition.
X-Ray facilities
Cotswold Chiropractic Health Centre is equipped with state-of-the-art onsite digital X-Ray facilities to enhance our ability to assess and diagnose the root causes of your symptoms. While Chiropractors primarily rely on specialised tests and palpation skills to identify the source of your symptoms, there are instances where X-Ray examinations may be deemed necessary. Having these facilities at the practice means we can see your images immediately with reports next day! No more NHS waiting lists!
X-Ray imaging can serve as a valuable tool to investigate a wide range of bodily areas and conditions, including:
Trauma Injuries: In cases of suspected broken or fractured bones, swelling, or dislocations, X-Ray imaging is essential to confirm the extent of the injury before initiating any treatment.
Scoliosis: When there are concerns about undiagnosed scoliosis, X-Ray scans provide a comprehensive view to determine the full extent of any structural changes in the spine.
Degeneration: If your Chiropractor suspects the presence of conditions such as arthritis or degenerative changes, X-Ray imaging can help confirm and visualize these issues.
Infections: Serious infections that may be causing damage can often be detected through X-Ray examinations, allowing for timely intervention and appropriate treatment.
At Cotswold Chiropractic Health Centre, our commitment to utilizing cutting-edge technology, including digital X-Ray facilities, ensures that we provide you with the most accurate and thorough diagnostic assessments for your specific healthcare needs.
Report of Findings
After your initial New Patient Consultation, your Chiropractor dedicates time to thoroughly review all the information collected during your visit. This includes analyzing your intake form, primary concern form, consultation notes, findings from the physical examination, and, if necessary, the results of any X-rays. X-ray images are additionally evaluated by a Medical Radiologist to ensure a comprehensive assessment.
Having studied your case in depth, your Chiropractor creates a tailored plan of chiropractic treatments aimed at restoring spinal mobility, improving function, and alleviating your specific symptoms. These treatment plans are customized for each patient and typically follow this general structure:
Part 1: The initial phase of care primarily focuses on re-establishing motion in the spinal areas identified by your Chiropractor as the most restricted, misaligned, or dysfunctional. This phase often includes prescribed at-home stretches to facilitate and maintain optimal joint mobility between Chiropractic adjustments. The first phase is typically the most intensive, lasting anywhere from 4 to 8 weeks, with adjustments scheduled 1 to 3 times per week. The frequency and duration of this phase are determined on an individual basis as part of your unique care plan.
Part 2: After successfully completing the initial phase of care, you will transition to the second phase, which emphasizes enhancing strength and stability in your spine, particularly in the areas that required the most attention during the first phase or the weaker segments of your spine and core. In addition to the stretches from the first phase, your Chiropractor may recommend various strengthening exercises to improve muscular tone, strength, and overall stability throughout your body. This phase involves fewer adjustments, typically lasting from 4 to 8 weeks, with adjustments scheduled once a week. The exact frequency and duration of this phase depend on your response to the initial phase of care and are personalized to your care plan.
Part 3: By the conclusion of the second phase of care, most patients experience symptom control, increased flexibility, improved mobility, enhanced strength, and an overall sense of well-being. The third phase of care varies from person to person. Some patients may reach their treatment goals and be discharged, either at the discretion of your Chiropractor or upon your own satisfaction with the achieved results. For those concluding their treatment, we recommend a continued regimen of regular stretching and strengthening exercises to maintain progress alongside a maintenance schedule of care. These maintainence adjustments are aimed at preserving spinal motion and alignment over an extended period, particularly when evidence of joint degeneration is present. These areas are prone to stiffening and dysfunction and may require ongoing management beyond stretches and exercises alone. At the end of the second phase of care, your Chiropractor will engage in a comprehensive discussion with you, presenting all available options, empowering you to make an informed decision about your future care plan.
We are committed to your well-being and will work together to determine the best path forward for your individual needs.

FAQ
Our Most frequent questions and answers
Chiropractic care is a hands on approach to spinal, musculoskeletal and neurological health. It focuses on assessing how your spine, joints, muscles and nervous system are working together, with the aim of improving movement, reducing irritation and supporting your overall well being. At Cotswold Chiropractic Health Centre, Chiropractic care is centred around personalised assessment, precise Chiropractic adjustments and tailored advice to help you feel and function at your best.
Your chiropractic consultation is the first step in understanding what may be causing your symptoms. We will ask about your health history, your symptoms, when they started, and anything that makes them better or worse. Your Chiropractor will then carry out a physical examination and testing, looking at spinal movement, posture, muscle tension and other important areas of function.Your findings will be explained clearly and the next steps in your care will be discussed with you.
A chiropractic adjustment is a precise hands on technique used to improve movement in joints that are restricted or not functioning as they should. The aim is to help restore better spinal motion, reduce irritation, and support healthier function throughout the body. At our clinic, any Chiropractic adjustment is based on a full assessment, so your care is always tailored to your needs rather than being a one size fits all approach.
Yes, Chiropractic treatment may help with a wide range of musculoskeletal concerns, not just back pain. Many people initially come to us with neck pain, headaches, joint stiffness, muscle tension or postural issues. Others choose Chiropractic care as part of their wider spinal care and wellness routine, especially when they want to move better, improve flexibility, support athletic performance and maintain progress once they are feeling well again.
Yes. At Cotswold Chiropractic Health Centre, your care plan is built around you, your specific needs and your goals. After your consultation and examination, your Chiropractor will put together a tailored plan of care based on what they find. This may include Chiropractic adjustments, stretches, strengthening exercises and advice to support your spinal health over time. We may also recommend that you see some of our other expert practitioners for the best possible outcome.
Not always. Many patients can be assessed safely without X rays, but in some cases your Chiropractor may recommend imaging if they need more information about your spinal condition or want to rule out certain issues before starting your care. At our Broadway clinic, we have brand new digital X-Ray facilities, which helps us assess some cases more thoroughly and plan care with greater clarity where needed.
No. While many people first book because they are in pain, Chiropractic for health and wellness goes beyond symptom relief alone. Once patients are feeling better, many choose to continue with ongoing spinal care to help maintain mobility, support posture, improve flexibility and stay active. For some, Chiropractic for wellness becomes part of a broader approach to looking after their body and feeling their best long term.
Chiropractic treatment is considered safe when it is carried out by a properly trained and registered Chiropractor. Before beginning care, your Chiropractor should take a full history, examine you properly, explain their findings and discuss whether treatment is appropriate for your case. It is common for patients to have questions about safety, which is why clear assessment, personalised care and open discussion are such an important part of the consultation process.
